Stay Inspired.

I love January but not because it's my birthday but because we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Then quickly followed by celebrating Black Excellence. The beautiful thing about social media is we celebrate #blackexcellence every day in every way. Whether its responding to a #buyblack post or acknowledging the beautiful melanin that dawns gorgeous skin, we celebrate our Blackness daily. As we prepare to celebrate our king, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I encourage you to spend time reflecting on the progress we've made but how far we have to go. Here are a few simple things to help you reflect:

  • Listen to the I Have a Dream speech by Martin Luther King, Jr.

  • Watch Women of the Movement on abc

    • A limited series event based on the true story of Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley

    • You will walk away heartbroken and inspired by Mamie's strength and fortitude.

  • Watch Selma the Movie, The United States vs Billie Holiday and Judas and the Black Messiah

  • Read Caste by Isabel Wilkerson

There are many actions we can take to reflect on the progress to make Dr. King's dream a reality. But be inspired. We have work to do. This journey of disrupting systemic racism and fighting the nonstop injustices to people of color from underrepresented communities around the world is far from over. Stay inspired. Work hard and make history.
