Gratitude Attitude: Why Gratitude Is Important And How To Cultivate It

Making a conscious effort to be happy because you are grateful for every moment to grow and learn as a spiritual being can feel difficult but the happiest people often have a spirit of gratitude. This feeling is universal and resonates with everyone around the world.

In our society, we tend to put so much effort in trying to obtain more. We always want more success, material things, money, power and position. But these items are what we consider “success” because we believe that when we have them, the quest to achieve happiness is done. Don't get me wrong having money, success and abundance isn't a bad thing, but being thankful and grateful for your health, family and even lessons during the tough times can out-way obtaining all of the things I just listed.

Gratitude is the best attitude because it allows you to celebrate life. Instead of feeling unfulfilled, you can let gratitude fuel your sense of optimism. You will realize that you are filled with blessings and deserves more —in your personal life, your work life, even love. Did you know that having a spirit of gratitude can change your life? Check out this TED Talk by David Steindl-Rast. “Opportunity is the gift within every gift, and every moment is a new gift, over and over again. Moment by moment, we can be grateful for this gift.”

Here are a few steps to practice gratitude every day.

  • Purchase a gratitude journal and write 5 things you are grateful for

  • Express gratitude to your family, friends and colleagues. Thank you is all it takes. A kind word can change someone’s day.

  • Go within and express gratitude to yourself. Thank YOU for all that you are and will do in the world.

Lastly, I want to express my gratitude for each of you joining me on this journey. I am thankful for you. Check out this amazing video as Oprah talks about the importance of prayer, conscious kindness, empathy and gratitude.
